How to Ease Back Pain Caused by Shovelling Snow
Back Pain Relief Can Happen
Do you fear the dreaded “S” word? Does it send chills down your back when you hear the word “snow”? Do bad memories remind you of the time you needed to shovel the snow and back pain appeared?
Well I am glad you have found us! Ease from back pain is possible after an injury.
Steps To Take To Avoid Injuring Your Back And How To Ease Back Pain
Prevention goes a long way to minimize back pain. Here is a list of some strategies you can use to prevent injury.
- 1Use a small shovel or lift small amounts of snow. Better yet, rather than lifting the snow, push the shovel instead. Be sure to use your legs to create momentum.
- 2Bend at the knees, not the back. This allows your strong leg muscles to do the lifting.
- 3Avoid twisting the body. Instead, take a step and turn the whole body so the back isn’t being overworked.
- 4Wear footwear with a thick tread and soft rubber. This type of footwear will keep you from slipping and falling in the snow.
- 5Be sure to stretch your back and legs following snow shovelling. Your muscles will tighten as you work, so doing some gentle stretches will prevent the body from seizing up once you’ve stopped.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of strategies you can use to prevent injury when shovelling the snow. Injuries do happen, for whatever reason, it happens.
